Cannabis Flower
Cannabis flower is the dried, cured bud of the cannabis plant. It's sold by weight and either smoked or heated in a dry-herb vaporizer, and every legal jar links to its lab results.

What to know before you buy
Indica, sativa and hybrid
These labels describe a plant's family tree. They don't promise how a jar will feel. Shops use them to group the shelf, so treat them as a place to start the conversation, then ask about smell and terpenes.
What the THC number tells you
THC percentage is a measure of concentration by weight. It doesn't tell you how the plant was grown, how fresh it is or how it smells. Legal products carry a QR code or link to their lab report, the Certificate of Analysis, so you can read the full results.
Terpenes
Terpenes are the compounds behind a strain's smell: citrus, pine, pepper, diesel. If you already know a smell you like, ask the budtender which strains share it.
Keeping it fresh
Keep flower in an airtight container, away from light and heat. A drawer is better than a windowsill.

Flower questions, answered
How much cannabis can you have in New York?
Adults 21 and older can legally possess up to 3 ounces of cannabis and 24 grams of concentrated cannabis in New York, according to the Office of Cannabis Management.
Is flower with more THC better?
Not necessarily. THC percentage measures concentration only. Growing, curing, freshness and terpene profile all shape what you'll actually notice, and none of them show up in that one number.
What's the difference between indica and sativa?
They're lineage labels that shops use to group flower on the shelf. They're a rough guide, not a guarantee of how a strain will feel, so ask about the terpene profile too.
